Do I need council approval to prune or remove a tree?
Often, yes. Verge trees and anything on a significant-tree register need approval in most hills LGAs — Kalamunda and Mundaring both keep registers, and the rules differ street to street. We check your council's register when we quote and lodge the form before anything is cut. Small self-sown saplings and most backyard fruit trees usually don't need it — we'll tell you which yours is rather than guessing.
How much does a big tree removal cost?
Honestly: from $2,800 upward, and only quoted on site. Small trees start at $650, but a large removal needs a climb plan, rigging over whatever's underneath, chipper access and sometimes traffic control — those move the number more than the tree does. We walk the drop zone with you first, then the quote is in writing and it holds.
Is my tree dangerous?
Probably not — and that's the honest problem. Most trees people fear are fine, and the ones that aren't often look fine. The real signs are deadwood over targets, a new lean, cracked unions, and fungus at the base. That's exactly what the free assessment checks: an AQF Level 5 arborist reads the tree and tells you what it needs, including "nothing".
What happens to the wood?
Your call. Limbs and canopy go through the chipper — the mulch is yours free if you want it. Trunk wood can be left as firewood rounds, and anything you don't want goes to the tip, billed at cost with the docket to show for it. Nothing is padded into the quote.
Are you insured for work over the house?
Yes — $20M public liability including working at heights and over-structure rigging, which is the part many policies quietly exclude. Ask for the certificate of currency; we hand it over with the quote. Any limb over a roof comes down on a rope, not gravity, and the insurance assumes exactly that method.
When's the best time to prune?
Depends on the tree. Marris and most gums prefer late summer into autumn, after the stress of the hot months. Deciduous trees are best in winter while they're dormant. Deadwood can come out any time of year — it's already dead. If you've got a species question, name the tree when you book and the arborist will time it right.
