Automatic gates · Malaga to Mundaring

A gate that’s open before you reach it — Malaga to Mundaring.

Swing and sliding gate automation on driveways, strata entries and Malaga yards. Two install crews and our own auto-electrician.

11 years · 1,900 gates automated · two crews out of Malaga Mon–Fri 7am–4pm, Saturday mornings by arrangement · the site measure is $0
  • Every gate company in Perth answers “we’d have to come and look”. We still come and look — the measure is free and it takes twenty minutes. Here is the number first.
  • Supplied, installed, wired and commissioned by our own crew, with the auto-electrician on the same job rather than booked in three weeks later.
  • We do not build the piers. Your bricklayer does, and we give them the plate positions and dimensions before they lay a course — which is the part most jobs get wrong.

What a gate costs, before you ring

Supplied, installed, wired and commissioned, ex GST. The piers and any brickwork are your bricklayer’s, and a power run to the gate is quoted separately if there is nothing there. The site measure that confirms all of it is $0.

Automated double swing

Two aluminium slat leaves, underground or ram operators, hinged at your piers.

from $6,700 a 3 m opening, installed

Automated sliding gate

One leaf on a cantilever or ground track, running back along the fence line.

from $8,000 a 3 m opening, installed

Keypad on the pier

Weather-sealed code pad, wired back to the controller. Codes you can change yourself.

$520 added to any gate

Video intercom

Camera and speaker at the gate, handset or phone in the house. See who is at the pier.

$1,480 added to any gate

Motor retrofit

Your gate already hangs and swings well? We automate the one you have instead of selling you a new one.

from $1,450 on your existing gate

Service and beam alignment

Gate stopping, reversing, or clicking and going nowhere. Safety beams knocked out of line by a reversing ute.

from $260 a service call

Spare remote

Paired on site while we are there, so you leave with it working rather than a code to type in later.

$95 each, paired

Battery backup

The gate keeps opening through a blackout — roughly a day of normal use before it needs power back.

$340 fitted to any install

Price your gate

Drive, opening, entry. That is the whole gate price.

Three things set it, and none of them need a site visit to answer. Measure the gap between where your piers will go — that is the clear opening.

A sliding gate on this same opening is $9,390$1,420 more. Sliding costs more than a double swing at every width and every package on this page — $1,300 more at 3 m, $1,900 more at 6 m. If two leaves have room to swing in, take the swing.

The entry gear is the same money on every gate here. Keypad $520, video intercom $1,480 — whether it goes on a 3 m swing or a 6 m slider. Decide the gate and the entry separately; neither one drags the other up.

Not in this figure, and we will say which ones your job needs at the measure: brick or rendered piers (your bricklayer — we set out the plates and give them the dimensions), any concreting or driveway work, and a power run to the gate if there is nothing there. Automating a gate you already own is a separate line from $1,450 and is not part of this estimate, because it depends entirely on what is already hanging.

Four things happen, in this order

From the first call to a gate that opens, most jobs run three to four weeks. Here is where the time actually goes.

01

The measure

Twenty minutes on site, no charge. We measure the clear opening, check the fall of the driveway, find the power, and tell you which of the three exclusions above your job has.

02

Pier set-out

If the piers are not built we hand your bricklayer the plate positions, the conduit run and the finished dimensions in writing. Piers built to a guess are the single most common reason a gate has to come off again.

03

Fabrication

Leaves made to the measured opening, powdercoated, and the operators and controller ordered against the same job number. Usually two to three weeks.

04

Install and commissioning

One day on site for most jobs. Hung, wired, beams aligned, force and travel set, remotes and codes paired, and you open and close it yourself before we leave.

Why people ring us second

Most of our calls come after somebody else has quoted. These are the four things that change the answer.

The price is on the page

You can price a 3.6 m double swing with a keypad at eleven at night without giving anyone your phone number. The measure then confirms it or tells you exactly what is different.

Our own auto-electrician

The controller, the beams, the loop and the power run are all on our ticket. No waiting three weeks for a sparky to come back and finish somebody else’s install.

We tell you when to go cheaper

A double swing is less than a sliding gate at every opening on this page. If your block has room for two leaves to swing in, we will say so — even though the slider is the dearer sale.

Two crews, north and east

What people say after the first winter

Demonstration copy for a fictional business. On a real build these are your Google reviews, pulled live.

“Three quotes and Latchway were the only ones who would say a number over the phone. They also talked us out of the sliding gate we asked for, which saved us about fifteen hundred dollars.”

HomeownerEllenbrook

“Our bricklayer built the piers off Latchway’s set-out sheet before they’d taken a deposit. Gate went on in a day and the opening was right to the millimetre.”

Owner-builderBullsbrook

“We run eleven driveways across two strata sites. They service the lot on one visit and the beams get aligned before somebody clips them, not after.”

What we get asked at the measure

How long from the measure to a working gate?
Three to four weeks for most jobs, and nearly all of that is fabrication and powdercoating. The measure is usually within a week of your call, the install is one day, and we commission it while we are there — you open and close it yourself before the ute leaves. If your piers are not built yet, that time runs in parallel: your bricklayer works off our set-out sheet while the leaves are being made.
Do I need power at the gate?
Yes — the operators, the controller and the safety beams all run off mains with a transformer. On most jobs there is nothing there. Our own auto-electrician runs it, in conduit, and it is quoted as its own line before we start, never added afterwards. It is not in the estimate on this page because the distance from your board to the gate is the whole cost of it, and we do not know that until we have walked it.
What happens in a blackout?
Every gate we install has a manual release — a key on the operator, and you push the gate by hand. If you would rather not, battery backup is $340 fitted and gives you roughly a day of normal opening and closing before it needs the power back. On a sloped driveway or a strata entry we recommend it, because a heavy leaf pushed by hand in the rain is nobody’s good evening.
Can you automate the gate I already have?
Often, and it is the cheapest thing on this page: from $1,450. The test is whether the gate hangs true and swings or rolls freely by hand right now. If it drops, drags or has to be lifted at the latch, an operator will only wear itself out fighting it — we will say so at the measure rather than fit one and come back in eight months. Retrofits are quoted separately and are deliberately not part of the estimate above, because what is already hanging decides the number.
Do you build the piers?
No. We are gate and automation people, not bricklayers, and a company that says yes to everything usually subcontracts it anyway. What we do give you is the set-out sheet: plate positions, conduit entry, finished pier dimensions and the clear opening, in writing, before a course is laid. Take it to your own bricklayer or we will name two we work with. Piers built to a guess are the most expensive mistake on a gate job.
Are safety beams enough with kids and dogs about?
Beams are one part of it. We fit a photoelectric beam across the opening, set the operator’s force and travel limits at commissioning so the leaf stops and reverses on an obstruction, and we walk you through the manual release before we leave. What we will not do is tell you a gate is child-safe. It is a heavy moving object on your driveway: the beams, the force setting and the auto-close delay are all adjustable, and we set them with you standing there rather than to a factory default.
How wide can a swing leaf go?
We build swing leaves to 3 m each, which is the 6 m opening at the top of the estimate. Past that the leaf gets heavy enough at the latch end that hinges and operators start living a short life, and we would rather put a sliding gate on it and tell you why. The other limit is behind the gate, not in front of it: each leaf needs roughly its own length of clear ground behind the pier to swing into — no bins, no letterbox, no slope running away from you. The estimate prints that figure for whichever opening you pick.
What does a sliding gate need that a swing does not?
Room alongside, on one side only. A sliding leaf has to run back into a clear fence line a bit longer than the opening itself — no meter box, no tap, no tree in the way. If you have that, sliding is the better answer on a steep driveway or a short one where there is nowhere for a leaf to swing. If you do not, the swing is both cheaper and simpler: $1,300 less at 3 m and $1,900 less at 6 m, on the same entry package.
