Formset Concrete — driveways, alfrescos & shed slabs across the southern corridor

The job is won or lost when the forms are set. We set them before sunrise, pour 25 MPa mesh-reinforced, and hand you a finish you chose off a real estimate — not a guess on the back of a card.

What we pour, and what it honestly costs

All rates 25 MPa, mesh reinforced, cut or tooled joints, cleaned up behind us. If a cheaper quote doesn't say that, ask what got cut.

Driveways — plain grey

from $70/m²

125 mm, vehicle-rated mesh, steel-trowel or broom finish. Crossover paperwork handled — the verge is the shire's; the forms are ours.

Liquid limestone

from $90/m²

Creamy, poured — not paved — and cool underfoot in February. The alfresco favourite south of the river.

Exposed aggregate

from $100/m²

Seeded stone, washed and sealed. Grip in winter, no glare in summer, and it hides sand better than anything else we pour.

Honed aggregate

from $140/m²

Ground back to the stone and polished. The premium finish — flecks like terrazzo, sealed against coffee and rust drips.

Shed slabs

to engineer's spec

Your shed company's drawings, our slab — thickenings and hold-down bolts where the plan says, levels the installer can check.

Old concrete out

from $45/m²

Break, cart-off and tip fees at cost. We quote removal and the new slab as one number, so nothing turns up on the invoice twice.

Minimum job $1,800

Boxing, mesh, a truck and a crew turn up whether it's 15 metres or 50 — the minimum is what makes small jobs honest. And if there's no truck access to the back, a line pump is ≈ $650 on the day, at cost. We tell you at the measure, not on the invoice.

Word around the estate

Poured, finished, and still getting mentioned

★★★★★

"The driveway was poured before the kids woke up. Boxing at five, truck at half past, and they were screeding by school drop-off. The exposed agg looks like the display homes'."

Renée · Baldivis · double driveway
★★★★★

"Liquid limestone alfresco, and it's genuinely cool underfoot in February. They set the falls so the winter rain runs to the garden, not the door."

Marcus · Secret Harbour · alfresco
★★★★★

"Shed slab to the engineer's drawings — bolts where the plan said, and it passed the installer's level check without a shim. He asked who poured it."

Straight answers

What people ask before the truck's booked

What does a driveway actually cost?

Per square metre, supplied and installed at 25 MPa with mesh and joints:

Plain greyfrom $70/m²
Liquid limestonefrom $90/m²
Exposed aggregatefrom $100/m²
Honed aggregatefrom $140/m²

What moves it: old slab out (from $45/m²), tight truck access (a line pump is ≈ $650 at cost), and steep falls that need extra formwork. A typical 40 m² double driveway in exposed aggregate lands around $4,000. Minimum job $1,800 either way.

Plain grey, exposed aggregate or liquid limestone — how do I choose?

Plain grey is the workhorse: cheapest, honest, broom-finished for grip. Exposed aggregate costs more but grips wet, hides sand, and doesn't glare. Liquid limestone is the one you walk barefoot on in February — it stays noticeably cooler — but it's a softer surface, so we keep it to alfrescos and paths rather than the driveway you turn a trailer on. Honed is the premium: aggregate ground back and polished like terrazzo.

How thick is the slab?

100 mm standard for alfrescos and paths, 125 mm wherever vehicles run. Shed slabs go to your shed company's engineered drawings — thickenings and hold-down bolts where the plan says, not where habit says.

When can I drive on it?

Seven days, plainly. You can walk on it at 24–48 hours, but concrete reaches driving strength at a week — anyone who says three days is selling you cracks. We'll cone it off and tell your paver or shed installer the same date we tell you.

Do I need council approval?

For the slab on your own block, generally no. The verge crossover — where the driveway crosses council land to the road — is the shire's, and most LGAs in the corridor want a crossover application (some rebate part of the cost). We do the paperwork with the quote so it's approved before we box.

Does WA sand need special prep?

Yes — and it's the part you can't see, so it's the part cheap quotes skip. Baldivis sand compacts well but only if it's actually compacted: we plate-compact the base in lifts, wet it down, and pour onto firm, damp sand — never onto a soaked base after rain. Fill areas get extra passes. Compaction is why a slab stays flat; the concrete just holds the shape the base gives it.
