Dogman / rigger — $98/hr
It’s rarely the tonnes, it’s the metres: capacity falls as radius grows. A lift over a house is a two-person job by law and by sense — the dogman calls what the operator can’t see.

What people ask before they book a crane
How much does a crane cost?
The 25-tonner is $230/hr with a 4-hour minimum — $920 — plus $380 metro travel the round trip, so a half day all-in is $1,300. That covers most truss, spa, container and pool-shell lifts. What moves it: a dogman if the lift needs one ($98/hr), a council permit if we’re set up on the road, and the step up to the 60-tonner (from $2,690) when the radius or the height demands it. The planner above does this maths in front of you.
What size crane do I need?
It’s rarely the tonnes, it’s the metres. A 25-tonne crane lifts 25 tonnes right beside itself — at 20 m of radius the chart is down to about 4.5 t. That’s what the planner above shows: pick your load, step the radius out, and watch the chart decide. If the working point crowds the chart, it’s honestly a 60 t job and we’ll say so.
Do I need a permit?
Sometimes. Lifting over your own block from your own driveway — no. Setting up on the verge or closing a lane — that’s a council permit, and it’s ours to arrange; we’ll tell you what it costs with the quote, not on the invoice. Near overhead power lines there are legal exclusion zones, and if your lift is close we involve the network operator before we quote.
What if it’s windy on the day?
Over the crane’s rated wind speed we stand down and re-book free. It’s the operator’s call and it isn’t negotiable — a saved crane fee has never once paid for a dropped load. Perth mornings are usually the still window, which is why the 6am slots book first.
Can you lift over my house?
Yes — it’s most of what we do. Any lift over a dwelling gets a documented lift plan: radius wheeled on site, chart margin checked, exclusion zone set, dogman on the far side. The free site check is where we confirm the crane can do it with margin — we’d rather say no on the phone than on your driveway.
How far ahead should I book?
A week out is comfortable for most lifts; two days is often fine outside the rush. The honest exception is pool-shell season — spring books solid, so book the crane when you book the dig, not when the shell’s on a truck.
