4,000 m² is about an acre. A hectare is about two and a half.

    Areas are rounded for display and rough ground is priced at 1.35 times the flat rate. We bill off the measured strip, and we round the quote to the nearest $10.

    A break-only cut on flat ground stays under our $280 minimum all the way up to 2,680 m² — about two thirds of an acre. Choose a block that size and this card will tell you to do it yourself.

    How wide do you cut the break?
    Our default cut is three metres wide, and that is the width the estimate on this page uses. It is our number, not a rule — the width that applies to your block is the one printed on the notice your local government sent you, and it is not the same in every shire. Photograph the notice, send it with your enquiry, and we cut to yours.
    Is a firebreak actually compulsory?
    Your local government issues fire hazard reduction notices under the Bush Fires Act 1954. The width, the position and the date on that notice are set by your shire and they differ between shires, so we do not publish figures for them here — we would rather you read your own notice than trust ours. Send us a photo of it and we will work to what it says.
    When should I book?
    As soon as the notice lands. Our diary fills from the first warm week of the season and the last fortnight before an inspection is the one we cannot always fit. If your date is tight, say so in the enquiry — we keep a couple of slots each week for people who have run out of runway.
    Why is there a minimum charge?
    $280 covers the truck, the trailer, the slasher and the trip up the hill, and it is the same whether we cut for forty minutes or two hours. On a small flat block that makes us poor value, and the estimate above will say so before you ring. On anything over about two thirds of an acre the cut itself is worth more than the trip and the minimum stops mattering.
    Do I need the whole block slashed?
    Usually not. Most notices are about a maintained strip around the boundary, which is a fraction of the area of the block — on a one-acre block the break is under a fifth of the ground. Whole-block slashing is what you buy when you want the paddock down for your own reasons: snakes, visibility, or you are about to build. We will quote both and let you choose.
    What about slope, granite and scattered trees?
    They slow the machine down and the estimate adds 35% for them. Where the slasher genuinely cannot go — steep drop-offs, rock shelves, around septic lids and soakwells — we finish those runs with a brushcutter by hand, and that is inside the same price, not an extra.
    What happens to everything we cut?
    It stays on the ground as stubble, which is what a break is meant to look like. We do not burn anything. If your block carries enough green waste that leaving it would defeat the purpose, we rake and cart it — and we price that on the day once we have seen how much there is, because guessing it from a phone call is how people get surprised by an invoice.
