Three rooms, in their words
Fourteen educators, one Saturday, our own kindy room. The trainer had the infant manikins out on the mats before we'd finished the coffee, and every certificate was in my inbox by Monday — a fortnight before the assessment visit.
Six apprentices needed LVR and CPR before licence day. They came to the workshop, ran the rescue off our own switchboard mock-up with the crook and the mat, and nobody had to lose a day on the road.
We'd had an AED on the wall for three years and I don't think anyone had opened it. One day in the lunchroom and the whole office knows where it is, what it says, and who's on the roster. Calm, clear, no theatre.

The training room is in Belmont, five minutes from the airport and fifteen from the city — public courses run there on the published calendar. On-site courses go anywhere in Perth metro with no travel fee; the Wheatbelt and Peel add a flat travel and overnight fee, and beyond that we quote it.

Questions we're asked at the sign-in desk
How long is a first aid certificate valid?
Honestly: the statement of attainment doesn't expire, but industry guidance recommends CPR (HLTAID009) annually and Provide First Aid (HLTAID011) every three years, and most workplace and childcare auditors hold you to that. We'll send a reminder when yours comes due if you ask us to.
Is it nationally recognised?
Yes. Every course except Mental Health First Aid is a unit of competency from the national training package, and your statement of attainment is issued under our RTO number and reported through your USI. MHFA is accredited by Mental Health First Aid Australia and issued as an MHFA certificate.
How long is the course?
CPR is half a day. Provide First Aid and Childcare first aid are one day in the room, with about two hours of online theory done beforehand — you turn up ready for the practical. Low-voltage rescue with CPR is most of a day. Mental Health First Aid is two days.
Do we need a room?
For an on-site course we need floor space for the manikins on their mats — a lunchroom, boardroom or site shed with the tables pushed back — plus a screen or a wall for the projector. We bring everything else, including the AED trainer.
Can you come to a construction site?
Yes, and we do most weeks. A site shed with a level floor is enough; we'll fit around the toolbox talk and the crib break, and if it's a shutdown weekend the after-hours fee covers it.
Do you do refreshers?
The CPR course is the refresher — that's the unit most people re-do each year. When your Provide First Aid comes round again it's the full day, because the unit is re-assessed in full; the online pre-work makes it quicker the second time.
