      Reviews

      Three tickets, in their words

I'd been casual on the dock for a year because I didn't have the ticket. Three days at the yard, assessment Thursday, licence application lodged before I'd taken the hi-vis off — the week after, they made me permanent.

Jake, warehouse hand, Cannington — LF new operator, our yard

Four of our crew, one day, on our own dock with our own machines. The trainer worked around the morning dispatch, the assessor ran them through in the afternoon, and nobody drove anywhere. Cheaper than four days of downtime, easily.

Maria, ops manager, Forrestfield — LF experienced × 4, on-site

My licence lapsed while I was east and I'd been off the seat two years. One day — brush up in the morning, assessed after lunch, and they sat with me while I lodged the WorkSafe renewal. Back rostered the same week.

      Where

A Welshpool yard, on-site across the industrial belt

The training yard is in Welshpool, in the middle of the freight belt — five minutes from Kewdale, ten from the airport. Public courses run at the yard most weeks; on-site group training goes anywhere in Perth metro for a flat venue-and-travel fee, and the industrial estates below are where most of it lands.

      Before you book

Questions we get at the gate

How long does the licence last?

The high risk work licence renews every five years with WorkSafe WA — the renewal is paperwork, not a re-test, unless you've been out of the seat and want a refresher. We'll send a nudge when yours comes due if you ask us to.

Is the WorkSafe licence fee included?

No — the application fee is set by WorkSafe and paid direct to them, so we never mark it up. What we do include is the lodgement: photos, the assessor's summary and the application done with you on course day.

Do we need our own machine for on-site training?

Yes — your machine and a clear work area, and we bring the rest: trainer, assessor, cones, loads, logbooks and the paperwork. If your dock can't spare the machine, book the crew into the Welshpool yard instead.

What if I fail the assessment?

Honestly: it happens, usually on nerves. You come back for a resit day, priced at the experienced-operator rate for your class — more practice in the morning, re-assessed in the afternoon. Most resits pass.

Can I do the course online?

The theory, yes — that's the eLearning refresher pack, done at home before day one. The practical, never: a forklift ticket is assessed on a machine, in a yard, with real loads. Anyone who tells you otherwise is selling paper.

How old do I need to be?

Eighteen — WorkSafe won't issue a high risk work licence under that. Bring photo ID on day one; you'll need it for the licence application anyway.

      Book a course

Tell us the class and the crew. We'll ring back with dates.

      • New-operator courses start Monday most weeks — assessed Thursday, licence lodged Friday.
      • Experienced one-day sessions run twice a week, plus Saturday intakes at the yard.
      • On-site: four-seat minimum, your machine and a clear work area, anywhere in the metro belt.

We'd call you back the same business day, from a Welshpool number, with the next two start dates that fit. Prefer email? Say so in the notes.
