Custom picture framing in Fremantle — the right frame disappears.

Prints, originals, photographs, medals and the poster you paid too much for to hang with clips. Size it in the Frame Studio, pick the moulding, mat and glass, and the wall label shows the price before you walk in.

The Frame Studio

Price the piece before you bring it in

Measure the artwork itself — the mat border and moulding sit outside those numbers and are priced in their own lines. Every estimate includes acid-free foam-core backing, D-rings and cord.

Moulding is priced per linear metre of the artwork's perimeter; mat and glass by its area, in two bands — up to half a square metre, and over.

Services & prices

Five things priced on the page, two we price on the piece

Every "from" price is the Studio's cheapest honest output for that line — a 20 × 20 cm print in a white moulding with standard glass frames for $66. Prices include GST, backing and fittings.

Custom framing

from $66

Your artwork measured, a moulding cut and joined on the bench, glazed, backed and fitted with D-rings and cord. Raw oak, black ash, gilt or white — from $45 a linear metre.

Mat cutting

from $35

Acid-free window mats bevel-cut to your piece — single or double with a gilt reveal. Also cut to fit a frame you already own.

UV-filter glass

from $60

Blocks 99% of ultraviolet so watercolours, photographs and signed prints don't fade in a Fremantle front room.

Museum glass

from $120

Non-reflective and UV-blocking. Under a gallery light or opposite a window, the glass disappears and the work reads clearest.

Float mounting

+$40

The artwork hinged proud of the mat with its edges showing — for deckled paper, handmade prints and anything with a good edge.

Canvas stretching & block mounts

quoted on the piece

Rolled canvases stretched on kiln-dried bars, floating frames for stretched work, prints and photographs block-mounted. Bring it in or send a photo and the size.

Medals, jerseys & objects

quoted on the piece

Shadow boxes for medals, sporting jerseys, christening gowns and things that aren't flat — sewn or pinned, never glued, so it all comes out again one day.

From the wall

Pieces that finally look like they belong

Bought a print at the Freo markets for forty dollars and hung it with bulldog clips for two years. Oak, single mat, UV glass — it looks like art now. My mother asked which gallery it came from.

Priya · South Fremantle

My grandfather's service medals had been in a shoebox since 1998. They sewed them onto a charcoal mount in a shadow box with museum glass, ribbons straight, name plate cut on the bench. Dad cried a bit.

Marcus · Melville

Twelve works on paper for a group show at PS Art Space, black ash floated, all done in a week because they knew the hang date mattered. Every frame identical. The curator noticed.

Ella · East Fremantle

Further out — Perth's northern suburbs, the hills, Rockingham — is fine for delivery of the finished frame; we'd just ask for a photo and the measurements first.

Questions we get on the bench

Straight answers on framing

How long does framing take?
Five to ten working days for most jobs — a moulding in stock, a mat cut on the bench, standard or UV glass from our sheets. Museum glass is ordered per job and can add a week. If there's a hang date, tell us at the counter and we'll say honestly whether we can meet it.
UV glass or museum glass — which do I need?
UV-filter glass protects: it blocks 99% of the ultraviolet that fades watercolours, photographs and anything printed on paper. Museum glass protects and disappears — non-reflective, so under a lamp or opposite a window you see the work, not the room. For a poster or a reproduction you'll replace one day, standard glass is fine and we'll say so.
Can I bring my own frame?
Yes. We'll check the joins, cut a new mat and backing to fit, re-glaze it if the old glass is scratched, and put fresh D-rings and cord on. Mat cutting from $35; glass at the band price on the page.
Do you frame canvases?
Rolled canvases get stretched over kiln-dried bars; stretched canvases go into floating frames with a shadow gap so the edge shows. Both are quoted on the piece — the size, the depth of the bars and the state of the canvas all move the number, so we'd rather see it than guess on the page.
Will you match a frame I already have?
Usually. Bring the existing frame — or a corner of it, or a sharp photo with a ruler in shot — and we'll match the moulding profile and finish from our suppliers' ranges. If it's discontinued we'll find the nearest and show you both side by side before we cut anything.

Send the piece, we'll confirm the price and the day

Send your details and what's in the Frame Studio. Ren or Iris will call to confirm the estimate, ask about the artwork's condition and give you a drop-off time and a collection date. If the piece measures as you said, the label price is the invoice price.

We call back within one working day — usually the same afternoon.
