Headerline Contract Harvesting Contract headers across the eastern wheatbelt.
Two class 9 machines out of Cunderdin — Meckering to Merredin, York to Quairading. Tell us the paddock and we'll tell you the window, the days and the price before you hang up.
The Window · midnight to midnight
Receival is CBH's call — the sample at the bin is the number that counts, not ours.
The weather changes how long we're on your place, not what a hectare costs.
Your number, not ours — the header's monitor is the one that counts.
Receival is CBH's call — the sample at the bin is the number that counts, not ours. We price the machine and the operator. Nothing on this page is a promise about your grade, your yield or what you'll be paid.
What a hectare costs, and what sits on top of it
Per hectare for the machine and the operator, GST exclusive. Everything else is a line you can see. A season's booking is confirmed in writing before we move a header.
Contract harvesting — wheat or barley
Class 9 header, operator, daily service and fuel. We run the front the paddock suits and hand the moisture and yield files over at the end.
Lupins
Front on the deck, slower ground speed and a gentler drum. Priced above cereals because the day is shorter and the losses want watching.
Canola
Direct heading or picking up windrows you've already laid. We don't windrow — that's a separate contractor and we'll tell you who's about.
Heavy crop loading
Above 2.5 tonnes to the hectare the machine slows down and the day gets longer. The loading is the honest way to say that.
Chaser bin & operator
Keeps the header on the move instead of waiting on a field bin. Compulsory from 3 t/ha up, and behind the 60 ft front — it's what makes those work.
Road cartage to the CBH bin
Paddock to the receival site at Cunderdin, Tammin or Kellerberrin. Billed on the tonnes off the paddock, not the weighbridge — you keep the dockets.
Three seasons, three paddocks
“Fourteen hundred hectares and they had it in eleven days, second header on it from day four without me asking. What I liked was the phone call at half nine each night telling me what the moisture had done and what tomorrow looked like.”
“Everyone promises you the maps. These blokes turned up with a USB on the last afternoon and walked me through the yield file in the ute before they hooked the float on. First contractor who's ever done that.”
“Ban came over the radio at ten past twelve on the Friday. By the time I'd driven out there both machines were parked up on the gravel with the fire unit sitting beside them. No phone call, no argument. That's the whole review.”
The eastern wheatbelt, Northam to Merredin
Distances are by road from the Cunderdin shed. Anything past Merredin or south of Brookton we'll still look at — it just gets quoted on the run rather than off a flat float.
Tell us the paddock
The board fills from about the second week of September. Earlier you ring, better the date.
Thanks — that's on the board.
We'd call you back the same evening to put a date against it and talk through the access. Nothing's committed until you've got it in writing from us.
The six we get asked every year
What actually stops you, and why is 12.5 % somebody else's number?
Moisture. Wheat delivered to a CBH receival site has to be at or below 12.5 % moisture — that's CBH's receival standard, not ours, and it applies whether we're on your place or you're doing it yourself. When the sample comes back over it, the load doesn't go in, so we stop.
In practice that's the dew. The paddock comes good mid-morning and closes again when the dew drops back in the evening — which is exactly what the chart at the top of this page draws. We can't move that line and neither can you.
What does a Harvest and Vehicle Movement Ban mean for my program?
It means we stop. A Harvest and Vehicle Movement Ban is declared by the shire under the Bush Fires Act 1954 (WA) when the fire danger gets up, and while it's on, harvesting machinery and vehicle movement in the paddock stop for the hours it covers.
Pick the fire-danger day on the chart and you'll see what it does: the ban blocks the middle out of the day and leaves you two short runs either side of it. That costs days, not dollars — the per-hectare rate doesn't change because the shire declared a ban.
How do you charge, and why does a heavy crop cost more a hectare?
Per hectare for the machine and the operator, by crop, with a $4,500 minimum job charge so a small paddock still covers getting two machines and a float out there. The chaser bin, the cartage and the float are separate lines you can see.
Above 2.5 t/ha we add $9.00 a hectare for each half tonne over. That's not a levy on your good year — it's the honest way to say that a heavy crop feeds slower, so the same hectare takes longer. The estimator shows it as its own line.
Who carts it, and what does the cartage line cover?
Either. Plenty of growers cart their own and we just keep the chaser rolling. If you want us to do it, cartage is $11.00 a tonne from the paddock to the receival site at Cunderdin, Tammin or Kellerberrin.
That line is billed on the tonnes that come off the paddock at the yield you gave us, so you can check it against your own weighbridge dockets. If the two disagree, the dockets win and we re-issue the invoice.
What do I get at the end of it?
Files. The yield map and the moisture map off both machines in the format your agronomist or your farm software actually reads, plus the paddock records — hectares, hours, moisture at start and stop, and which machine did what.
Handed over on the last afternoon, before the float goes on. Not emailed in March.
What don't you do?
We don't windrow — that's a different machine and a different contractor, and we'll tell you who's about. We don't give agronomic advice; that's your agronomist's job and we're not qualified to take it off them.
And we never promise you a grade. The sample at the bin decides your grade and what you get paid for it, and no contractor who tells you otherwise is being straight with you.
