It's leaking: turn off the cold inlet valve on top of the tank now — it stops the refill and most of the mess. If water is anywhere near the switchboard, flip the hot water circuit off too.

How long does a changeover actually take?
A like-for-like swap is usually 2–3 hours on site — drain the old tank, out with it, new unit plumbed, tested, and the old one on the van. Switching system types (say, electric tank to heat pump) can add an hour or two for the new circuit or condensate line. Booked by 11am, you're showering hot that night.
Gas or heat pump — which is cheaper to run?
For a typical 3–4 person Perth household our table estimates gas continuous at about $340 a year and the heat pump at about $190 — the heat pump wins on running cost, gas wins on upfront ($2,150 vs $3,990 less STCs). Roughly speaking the heat pump's extra upfront pays itself back over the unit's life; the board lets you compare both for your household size.
What's the STC rebate on a heat pump worth?
Small-scale Technology Certificates are a federal rebate priced by the market on the day — so an honest answer is a number on your quote, not a number on a webpage. It applies at the day's certificate price and is deducted from the $3,990 before you pay. We handle the paperwork.
Do I need a bigger tank than the one that died?
Only if the household outgrew it. Size follows how many people shower, not the old data plate: 1–2 people run happily on a 16L continuous or 125L tank, 3–4 on a 26L or 250L, 5–6 want the 32L continuous — at that size, continuous flow recovers faster than any storage tank. The board sizes it in two taps.
My tank is leaking right now — what do I do?
Turn off the cold inlet valve on top of the tank — that stops the refill, which stops most of the flooding. If water is tracking anywhere near the switchboard, turn the hot water circuit off at the board too. Then call us: a leaking tank is exactly the same-day job this page is built around.
What if I can smell gas?
Don't wait for us. Leave the area and call ATCO's gas emergency line on 13 13 52 — that's the real emergency number and it runs 24 hours. Once the supply is made safe, we handle the repair or changeover with a licensed gas fitter.
