Which R-value should I pick?
R5.0 suits most Perth homes — it’s the batt we quote most and the visualiser’s rest setting. Go R6.0 for tin roofs and west-facing homes, where summer load is hardest. R4.0 is an honest budget step that still beats a builder-minimum ceiling.
Does insulation help in winter too?
Yes — same barrier, both directions. In summer it slows heat pressing in through the roof; in winter it slows the warmth you’ve paid for escaping up through the ceiling. Flip the season toggle on the visualiser and watch the arrows reverse.
What does old insulation removal involve?
We vacuum-extract the old flattened batts or blow-in with a hose run through the manhole, bag it, and dispose of it legally — +$8/m² on top of the install. The crew is masked, the ceiling is left clean, and the new batts go onto bare joists.
Can you top up over my old batts?
Only if they’re dry and intact. Compressed, damp or rodent-affected insulation barely works and shouldn’t be buried under new material — in that case removal first is the honest recommendation, and we’ll show you roof-space photos either way.
Why is there a $900 minimum?
A small ceiling still carries the same crew, vacuum gear, truck and setup as a big one. At 80 m² and below on the R4.0 rate the maths falls under that cost, so the job bills at $900 — the estimator tells you plainly whenever the minimum is doing the work.
How long does an install take?
Most single-storey homes are done in a morning — around three hours for a straight install, longer if we’re vacuuming the old layer out first. You don’t need to clear rooms; we work from the manhole and the roof space.
