Patchbay

Three oscillators, a filter with opinions, a delay with a long memory, and 4.7 metres of cable. The bench is live — sound starts at your first patch. No manual. No wrong answers. If it howls, turn the resonance down. Or don't.

The bench

Every cable changes the sound
Drawer: 4.7 m of cable

Bench ready — take a cable

Drag out → in, or click a jack then click another. Click a plugged input to pull its cable. Esc drops a held cable. Knobs drag vertically; Shift for fine; double-click for the factory mark.

How to patch

Ninety seconds to your first drone
01

Take a cable

Drag from any OUT jack — or click it once and the cable waits in your hand. Outputs never run dry; the drawer keeps count anyway.

02

Land it

Drop the plug on any IN. Signal flows the moment it seats. Stack as many cables into one input as you like — that's mixing, and it's legal here.

03

Turn things

Nothing patched to OUT means silence — the honest kind. Route an oscillator through the filter, land it on OUT · IN, then sweep CUTOFF and listen to the room change shape.

On the bench today

Eight modules, fourteen jacks

OSC A · B · C

Three oscillators, four waves each. A sits low, B mid, C high — detune two of them a few cents apart and the beating does the work. Patch the LFO into PITCH for vibrato, or another oscillator for FM that bites.

LFO

The slow hand. Too slow to hear on its own, patched into everything. Sine for weather, square for alarm, triangle for tide. RATE below 1 Hz is where the fog lives.

Filter

A lowpass with opinions. CUTOFF decides what survives; RES makes the surviving edge sing. Land the LFO on CUT and the whole patch breathes without you touching a thing.

Delay

A memory between 20 milliseconds and a second. Turn FDBK past 70% and it never quite lets go — every note becomes a place you visited. TIME moves with a tape-machine glide, on purpose.

Out

The last gain before your ears. AMP accepts the LFO for tremolo. The meter is honest and the limiter is a seatbelt, not a hammock — feed it three oscillators at full and it will still flinch.

Scope

Phosphor truth. TIME shows the waveform your cables built; SPECTRUM shows the recipe. Press XY with two oscillators running and tune them into Lissajous knots — a perfect fifth draws a figure you'll want to keep.

The shed

Est. 2019 · behind the panel beater

Unit 3, rear laneway. Open Thursday evenings and most wet Sundays. Bring headphones, sign the wall on your way out. House rules: patch first, ask later; headphones after nine; whoever unpatches the fog preset makes the tea.
