Setline Paving — brick paving laid to the line

Driveways, alfresco areas and pool surrounds, supply and lay from $1,900 — screeded, compacted and strung tight. The string line sets every course; we've been pulling it since 2010.

  • Laying since 2010
  • $20M public liability
  • Crossover approvals handled

Course Planner

Pick the job, the metres and the brick — the plan lays itself course by course.

Area type redraws the plan, not the price

Area to pave

60 m² 15–120 m², by 5

Paver supply & lay, on a prepared sand base

Laying pattern

$7,200

60 m² × ($110 clay + $10 herringbone) = $7,200

≈ 2,280 pavers at 38 per m² (230 × 115 format)

The meter is metres and material — the drawing changes, the arithmetic doesn't.

Under about $1,900 of paving, the minimum carries the job: mobilisation, sand, compaction gear and the crew's morning cost the same whether we lay 15 metres or 40.

Base honesty

Your paving is only as good as its base — we screed to 25 mm of compacted bedding sand over a proof-rolled sub-base, and we'll show you the plate compactor's passes, not just the pretty top.

Crossover honesty

Council crossover rules are real — a driveway to the verge needs your council's crossover approval, and we prepare the application with the quote. Council fees pass through at cost.

Efflorescence honesty

New clay pavers can bloom white salt for a season — it washes off, and it's the brick breathing, not a defect. We say it before you see it.

Services & honest anchors

What we lay, and what it costs

Supply and lay on a prepared sand base. Every job carries the $1,900 minimum — mobilisation, sand and compaction gear cost the same on a small job as a big one.

Brick paving

from $1,900 — the job minimum

Concrete from $85/m², clay $110, limestone $135, granite $175, supply and lay. Under about $1,900 of metres, the minimum carries the job.

Driveways

from $2,125

That's 25 m² of concrete pavers at $85/m² — the point where the metered price clears the $1,900 minimum. Herringbone recommended under wheels; crossover approval prepared with the quote.

Alfresco & entertaining

from $2,125

Levels matched to your door threshold to the millimetre — no trip, no puddle. Falls set away from the slab, every course strung to the line.

Pool surrounds

from $2,125 + coping from $95/lm

Salt-rated pavers wrapped around the coping line. Coping prices per lineal metre on top, measured on site — it never hides in the m² rate.

Garden paths

from $1,900

1.2 m courses with a proper edge restraint both sides, screeded and compacted like a driveway — a path that sinks was never bedded right.

Re-laying & repairs

from $1,900

Same minimum — lifting and relaying your own pavers is real labour on the same gear. We re-bed the base; we don't just flip the brick.

What the northern suburbs say

Demonstration copy — written for this demo, not collected from real customers.

“The builder left us a sand pad and a site toilet. Four days later it was a herringbone driveway — and the string lines never came down till the last brick went in.”
Renee T · new build, Landsdale
“Our alfresco levels met the door threshold to the millimetre — no trip, no puddle. They showed me the compactor passes before a single paver went down.”
Marcus D · renovation, Kingsley
“The surround wraps the curve of the pool without a single ugly cut on show. Coping was quoted per metre up front, exactly as measured.”

FAQ

Straight answers

How much does brick paving cost?

Metres × material. Supply and lay on a prepared sand base runs $85/m² for concrete pavers, $110 clay, $135 limestone and $175 granite, plus the pattern — stretcher's included, basketweave adds $6/m², herringbone $10/m² for the extra cuts. Every job carries a $1,900 minimum, because mobilisation, sand and compaction gear cost the same whether we lay 15 metres or 40.

The Course Planner above runs exactly that arithmetic — set your metres and see the figure move.

Which paver should I choose?

Honestly: concrete for driveways on a budget — consistent sizing, takes wheels well. Clay if you want colour that's fired all the way through and wears for decades (it may bloom white for a season — see below). Limestone runs coolest underfoot and suits pool areas, but likes a sealer. Granite is the hardest thing we lay and shrugs off salt and heat — you pay for it once.

How long does a job take?

The base is most of the work. A typical driveway is three to four days including sub-base prep and compaction; an alfresco two to three; a big pool surround about a week. Rain moves us — bedding sand won't screed wet, and we won't lay on a base we can't compact.

Do you handle the council crossover approval?

Yes, plainly. A driveway that meets the verge needs your council's crossover approval, and we prepare the application alongside the quote. Council fees pass through at cost — they vary by council, so we never invent that number.

What's the white powder on my new pavers?

Efflorescence — mineral salts working out of new clay pavers for their first season. It washes off, it fades on its own, and it's the brick breathing, not a defect. We tell you before you see it, so you don't think your new driveway is broken.

Will it sink?

Paving fails at the base, never the brick. That's why the quote itemises the prep: a proof-rolled sub-base, 25 mm of screeded bedding sand, plate compaction in passes we'll show you, and an edge restraint so the field can't walk. Skip any of those and the best paver in Perth will still dish under a wheel.
