Questions we actually get
How much does a home security system cost?
Honest package maths: an 8-zone alarm supplied and installed is from $890. A 4-camera 4K CCTV package with an NVR is from $1,690, extra cameras $290 each. A video doorbell is from $390. A common combination — 4 cameras plus a doorbell — lands at $2,080 installed; add the alarm and you're at $2,970. The free assessment firms it in writing for your actual house.
Monitored or self-monitored?
Self-monitoring is free: the system alerts your phone and you decide what happens next. That's genuinely fine for most homes — until you're on a plane, underground, or asleep. Back-to-base monitoring (from about $1.10 a day, billed by the monitoring centre — we set it up) means a control room answers when you can't. FIFO families and business premises usually choose it; we'll tell you honestly if you don't need it.
Do the cameras need the internet?
No. The NVR records to its own hard drive regardless — the internet is for your phone, not the footage. If your connection drops for a week, the recordings are all still there. That's the point of cabled cameras over Wi-Fi ones.
What happens in a blackout?
The alarm panel carries a backup battery — typically 8 to 12 hours of standby, and it's one of the things we test at a service. The NVR needs mains power; if outages worry you, a small UPS keeps cameras recording for an hour or two and we'll quote one honestly rather than pretend the base kit covers it.
Can you use my existing cameras?
Usually. If the cabling is sound we can often re-use the runs and upgrade the heads, which saves real money. But if what's there is 720p mush that couldn't identify your own dog, we'll say so and show you the difference on screen before you spend anything.
Is a licence required to install alarms in WA?
Yes. Security installers in WA must be licensed under the Security & Related Activities Act — it's not optional and it's not a formality. Ours is Lic. SA00000 and it's on every quote and every van. If an installer can't show you theirs, that's your answer about the rest of their work too.
