Every kilowatt-hour your panels make is either used by your house, exported for a small credit, or made while nobody's home — power you buy back at night at ~31c. Straight answers
The questions every Perth homeowner asks us.
What rebates actually exist in 2026?
Two that matter. STCs (small-scale technology certificates) come off the price of every solar system — they're why a 6.6 kW system is $3,900 and not $6,000, and every quote in the market already includes them, whatever the salesperson implies. The federal battery program discounts home batteries — our "from $9,900 installed" is the after-discount price. There is no secret extra rebate that ends this Friday. Anyone telling you otherwise is door-knocking.
Does my roof suit solar?
North-facing is the textbook answer, and it's in our name — but a west face is genuinely good in Perth because it generates into the afternoon peak, when you're home and when DEBS pays its 10c. East is workable. South, we'll be honest: usually not worth panelling. Tile, tin and Trimdek are all fine; asbestos roofs we don't touch. The free assessment settles it in twenty minutes.
What's this export limit I keep hearing about?
On a single-phase connection Synergy limits exports to 5 kW (1.5 kW in some cases on older infrastructure). It caps what you can sell, not what you can use — so a bigger array still cuts your bill through self-consumption, but past a point the extra panels only feed a capped export at 2–10c. It's exactly why the Day-Curve Saver above sometimes recommends a smaller system than a salesperson would.
Will my panels work in a blackout?
On their own — no. Every grid-connected inverter shuts down in a blackout, by law, to protect the line crews. You keep the lights on only with a backup-capable battery configuration, and here's the honest bit: most budget batteries don't include it, or charge extra for the backup circuit. If blackout backup is why you want a battery, tell us first — it changes which battery we quote.
How long does the install take?
One day for most systems — crew on the roof by 7am, system live by mid-afternoon, and we walk you through the monitoring app before we leave. Batteries add half a day. Two-storey homes or switchboard upgrades can stretch to a second day, and we'll tell you that at the assessment, not on the morning.
Do you handle the Synergy paperwork?
Yes, all of it — the Western Power application before install, the DEBS sign-up, and the meter reconfiguration after. You'll get an email when each step clears. The only thing you do is keep paying your bill until the new meter setting kicks in, then enjoy the smaller one.
